Iowa State top presenter at ITAA conference for seventh year; 16 awards received by students, faculty, alumni

groupaeshmFor the seventh year in a row, Iowa State University was the top presenter at the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) annual conference with 70 poster and oral presentations, and design exhibitions. Iowa State students, faculty, and alumni also took home 16 awards. The conference was held Nov. 14 to 18 in St. Petersburg, Florida. About 60 guests attended the Iowa State reception for alumni, students, faculty, and friends. ITAA is the premiere professional association in the field of apparel, merchandising, and design. Chandra Bolin named events coordinator for Business, Industry, and Technology Career Fair

Chandra Bolin, junior in marketing with a minor in event management, was recently selected to be a part of the Business, Industry, and Technology Career Fair planning committee as the Events Coordinator. Mackenzie Jordan and Megan Huftalin, both seniors in event management, joined associate professor Eric A Brown in attending The HX Hotel Experience — the largest hospitality show in North America — Nov. 11 to 13 in New York City. They attended a student networking reception, a tour of the Andaz 5th Avenue chic boutique hotel in Midtown Manhattan, and a breakfast sponsored by Hyatt with Eta Sigma Delta, the honor society for hospitality and event students. More».

Top industry leaders are advising Iowa State University’s event management program as members of the new Event Management Executive Advisory Council. They met Nov. 3 for the first time. Katelyn Otto, Gracie Olsen, Lydia Loya, Courtney Barbour selected by Omaha Fashion Week

Three Iowa State students and one alumna have been selected to showcase their designs during Omaha Fashion Week 2018. Katelyn Otto and Gracie Olsen, both sophomores in apparel, merchandising, and design, will exhibit “Otto & Olsen” in the emerging designer showcase category. In the same category, Courtney Barbour, a 2016 alumna, will show her line entitled “CJB Designs.” Lydia Loya, a junior in apparel, merchandising and design, has been selected to show “West Fens” in the featured designer showcase. A story from KCRG-TV featuring Ellen McKinney, assistant professor in apparel, events, and hospitality management, and Iowa State students highlighted their participation in the 4-H National Youth Science Day event on Oct. 24 at Franklin Middle School in Cedar Rapids.
