Textile and Apparel students at Iowa State will present "Mosaic," their 2001 Fashion Design Show April 6 and 7, at Fisher Theater in Ames according to T.J. Brown, co-publicity director for the event.  According to Brown, the Mosaic theme was selected to express the style of the multi-faceted presentation that will feature music and dance as well as new fashions.

Brown says, "The show will present an eclectic variety of designs and the goal is to make it an entertaining production to showcase the talent of student designers."  The show will include evening-, daytime-, and sports wear and promises to be a memorable evening of entertainment.

Fashions from the TC Experimental Design class and those featuring digital printing are expected to be exceptionally interesting.  At least eight "Collections" that have at least three outfits related to design by one designer will come from seniors in the Apparel Merchandising, Production and Design major.   Additional entries in this category will probably come from lower classmen.   Brown was quick to point out that the exact number of designs to be shown will depend on the creativity and energy of the students because most of the design work presented is not produced during class time.  Most design students are eager to have their work noticed and they enjoy the competition for awards.  Jean Parsons and J.R. Campbell are faculty co-advisers.

All entries in the show will be judged by a panel of faculty and members of the Textile and Apparel Advisory Board.

The underlying educational purpose of this event is to provide learning experiences for students that include personnel issues, competition, cooperation, critical critique of design work, organization and coordination of activities, promotion, advertising, and public involvement.  Brown says, "The intent of the advertising is to up the level of buzz about the event in Ames, Des Moines and central Iowa."   (The foregoing text taken from the Iowa Textile & Apparel Industry News, February 2001.)
