Ph.D. requirements

Students must have earned a master’s degree to be accepted into our Ph.D. program. For doctoral students a master’s degree with thesis is recommended. Graduate Record Exam (GRE) general test scores are required of doctoral and master’s degree applicants.

International students must have an overall Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 530 (paper test) or 71 (Internet-based test) For more detailed requirements go to the ISU Graduate College Admission site.

Graduate assistants must score at least 600 on the paper test, 250 on the computer test, and 100 on the internet-based test.

Supporting coursework

Students accepted for the Ph.D. or M.S. program who lack supporting course work in their chosen areas of emphasis generally are required to make up these deficiencies by course work or, in some cases, by readings and examination.
