Q: When should I see my advisor? Where are they located? How should I contact them? Who are they? A: You should see your advisor whenever you have questions. It is strongly recommended that you make an appointment to visit your advisor before registration period begins. Contacting advisors by email is preferred. Q: What should I know about registering for classes? A: Iowa State University utilizes an online registration system via AccessPlus. At mid-semester, Registration Access Numbers (RANs) will be generated for all undergraduate students along with a registration start date and time. The RAN is needed to begin the registration process on Access Plus and can be obtained from your advisor. Q: What courses will meet my general education requirements (humanities, natural sciences, social sciences)? A: Review the College of Human Sciences Requirements for approved list of courses. Q: What else can I do with a degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Studies and Education besides teach? A: We have two options in addition to teacher education: professional studies and education services. The professional studies option is for students who are interested in a non-traditional occupation and want flexibility in creating their degree plan. The educational services option is for students who are interested in educational careers in extension, business, government, community agencies, etc. Q: I already have a B.S./B.A. and want to obtain my teaching license in Family and Consumer Sciences Education. Where do I start? A: Email Axton Betz, your advisor, and introduce yourself and your professional/educational background.
