I was responsible for...
As the Kansas City Chiefs Sports Lab Intern, I was responsible for the planning and execution of Sports Lab tours for school in the Kansas City area. Additionally, I partnered with the NFL Fuel Up to Play 60 initiative where I visited local schools and conducted assemblies with the Sports Lab team. While the majority of my time was spent on focusing on the youth population in the Kansas City area, I also assisted the Community Outreach Department in community events such as visiting hospitals, schools, and military bases, participating in draft days and game day events, and so much more.
My greatest accomplishment was being able to work with the Community Outreach Department and assist in a Make-A-Wish request, school and hospital visits, and player appearances. I have created so many relationships with community members and Chief's personnel and I truly value all of the experience I have gained here with the Chief's. Being my first professional sports internship, I look forward to learning as much as I can before I continue my career in sports.
The greatest lesson I have learned from my experience is that professional organizations, specifically sports organizations, have so much power to do good in the community. These teams are able to reach out to a wide range of people who look up to members of the organization and it is a duty to do their part and give back to the fans. Having the opportunity to give back is the most rewarding experience and I have learned so much about how little it takes to help in the community.
Advice for others...
My advice to anyone looking for a career specifically working with a professional sports organization is to find as many opportunities and internships as possible. It is a highly competitive field and in order to find a position with any team, multiple internships or field experiences are almost required.
