I was responsible for...
Monday- On Monday I was responsible for cleaning the upstairs bathroom, cleaning both the Bridal and Groom’s Rooms, returning linens, cleaning chafing dishes, cleaning window, and checking messages. Tuesday- This Tuesday I checked and returned messages, prepared for the day’s meetings and tours, ordered bread for the weekend’s weddings, filed/scanned documents, worked on social media, and took office inventory. Thursday- On Thursday I checked/returned messages, prepared for meetings, helped set up for Friday’s wedding, polished silverware, set up the buffet, filed and scanned documents, sat in on meetings, and worked on social media. Friday- On Friday I checked/returned messages, completed event day social media, took pictures of the wedding, did last minute cleaning, ran errands, and worked in 17Hats. I am also responsible for making bridal gifts, sitting in on meetings and tours, marketing, and completing random projects my supervisor assigns me.
My greatest accomplishment from my experience was putting together a successful marketing plan for our Murder Mystery Event. The other intern and I were responsible for coming up with a strategy from start to finish and executing it.
The greatest lessons I have learned from my experience are that you cannot control everything in the events industry and you have to learn to accept it when something does not go right. I also learned that you will have to deal/work with difficult clients at some point during your career.
Advice for others...
My advice for future students is that you get out what you put into your internship. For example if you work hard and go the extra mile your boss will notice that and give you more and more responsibilities.
