I was responsible for...
My responsibilities with this internship mainly consisted of working one-on-one with the cardiac rehab patients. This includes getting them ready for the exercise session, progressing them over time, taking vitals, and submitting data entries throughout the session. I also led multiple group fitness classes, as well as helped with the general stocking and cleaning.
I think further developing my skills of building relationships with patients/clients, not only in one-on-one setting, but also in a group context is one of my greatest accomplishments with this experience.
One of the greatest lessons learned from my internship experience is that in order to be successful, it is important to take initiative. Jumping into things that you have little experience with only provides a way to learn more and broaden your horizons. I also learned how important it is to connect with the patients/clients. Building rapport with them makes the experience better for both you and the patient.
Advice for others...
I would advise future students to step out of your comfort zone. This is the best way to grow as a person and develop new skills that you never knew you had.
