During my interview for the internship position with Dornink, I was told that out of the 10 years that they have been in business, and every year having interns, that they have only let three interns ever sew and do alterations. My biggest accomplishment was being another intern that was entrusted to sew for the company. I was given multiple sewing tasks, and by the end of my internship, I was given large sewing project, such as making show choir sample dresses that would be sent to different high schools.
The greatest lesson I learned was to know the business side of the apparel industry. Being a small business owner takes a lot of time and skill, and working at Dornink, I got to be apart of so many aspects of their business, and really jump in and get an understanding to how small businesses work. I also learned that kindness goes a long way.
Advice for others...
Dear future student that is interested in interning with Dornink, my advice to you, is to be motivated and busy. Staying busy without being told what to do is something they are looking for in their interns. Also don't be shy or hesitant because the employees at Dornink want to know about yourself and your career.
