I was responsible for...
Throughout my time at D.R.A. Properties, I have experienced several realms of responsibilities within the event industry. Some of my responsibilities included coordinating details with food vendors, musical acts, hospitality companies, and my co-workers. I have been able to be a head representative for over 100 volunteers and have been the head contact person for several bands that have performed at our events. Above all, I've been learning what exactly goes on behind the scenes of an event and what it takes to make an event successful.
One of the biggest accomplishments I got to experience was being a part of a team that executed an event that attracted over 15,000 people. I learned a lot about myself in the process and was able to direct volunteers and other staff members to tasks that needed to be done. This event took a lot of time and effort, but our team was able to make it into an overwhelming success.
My greatest lesson learned so far has been learning my strengths and weaknesses. Putting myself into the working world and actually applying my knowledge to practice has shown me just what I need to work on for future opportunities. I've also learned that it's okay to ask questions, because it's better to ask a question you don't know the answer to than it is to assume and mess up the information for everyone else in the process.
Advice for others...
It's okay to make a mistake and it's okay if you don't know the answer to something. Make sure you're being attentive to details, especially in meetings. And be sure to offer your ideas and input. This is one of the biggest ways you'll learn something. Most importantly, make sure you're being yourself!
