My overall experience was incredible. I had such a fun time exploring the different countries and experiencing new things! We packed a lot of activities into two weeks and time definitely flew by. I made new friends, tried new foods, saw new sights, and much more!
I first learned about this international opportunity in class from a professor. I did some research on the ISU Abroad website and decided to apply!
An impact to my life...
This experience gave me a broader perspective on life. Having experienced a glimpse of life in Germany, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, I have a greater understanding of other cultures. Additionally, I will always have great memories from this trip that I can look back on. This trip has impacted my personal goals in life. First, I achieved goals of mine by studying abroad in college and going to Europe. Going forward, my personal goals have changed, as now they involve traveling more. Since I had such a great time on this trip, I want to see more of the world! Educationally, this trip has enriched my experience at Iowa State. My college experience will not only include learning in class, but also learning through first-hand experiences. Lastly, this trip will help me achieve my career goals, since it has taught me valuable skills I will be able to use in the future. Those skills involve interpersonal and intrapersonal skills, as well as knowledge relating to my field.
My most valuable learning experience...
The most valuable learning experience was about independence. This trip taught me to be a more independent person. This learning experience didn't come from just one moment, but many put together. While we did travel together in a group, there was something about being a world away from my family and friends at home that taught me about independence. There were times on this trip where we would split into smaller groups and navigating a new and unfamiliar location taught us all to be more self-sufficient and independent.
I will never forget...
My most memorable experience was in Paris, France when we went to the Eiffel Tower. It was something that I had seen in pictures a million times before, but I never knew if I would see it in real life. Standing below the Eiffel Tower and looking up was such a surreal experience and is something I will never forget.
Advice for others...
My advice would be to go for it! Be open to new and unfamiliar experiences. If you approach it with a positive attitude, everything will work out great!
