AMD senior Belange Mutunda wins $2,500 Civic/Social Entrepreneurship Award at Innovation Pitch Of: Belange Mutunda, a senior in apparel, merchandising, and design, won the Civic/Social Entrepreneurship Award at the the Great Iowa State Innovative Pitch Off held at the Iowa State Fair earlier this month. Mutunda started Belange Handmade, an apparel company that recycles old curtains into products ranging from bags to dresses. She uses the profits to make reusable sanitary pads and distribute them free of charge to girls in need.

Human Sciences entrepreneurs pitch ideas at the Iowa State Fair Saturday

A number of the College of Human Sciences' entrepreneurs presented their business ideas in The Great Iowa State Pitch Off: STANDING InnOVATION! exhibit at the Iowa State Fair this week. The seven finalists representing the college will compete again Saturday, August 17 starting at 12:30 p.m.
AMD doctoral program graduate receives Best Artwork Award: Dr. Ling Zhang, doctoral graduate in apparel, merchandising, and design, received the Best Artwork Award at the SFTI - WSU International Invited Fashion Exhibition in Seattle.

Stacey Wertzberger, academic adviser in hospitality management and event management, named among 'Women to Watch' in hospitality by Iowa Restaurant Association: Of 100 submissions across the state of Iowa, Stacey was one of the 40 chosen to be recognized. The list of honorees was published to the IRA's website on July 18.
